Penn State Football reason for optimism – The Secondary

Penn State Football’s secondary has played great so far this year, and the starting lineup has yet to allow a touchdown through the air.

Not only have the cornerbacks played well in coverage, but the safeties have too. Ji’Ayir Brown leads the team with two interceptions.

Indiana quarterback Michael Penix Jr has been great in the past, but he has struggled so far this season. In four games so far this season, Penix has thrown just four touchdowns, compared to six interceptions.

The Nittany Lions’ secondary has four interceptions this season (five total for the defense), and they likely will be able to add to that total against Indiana. They are also the best in the Big Ten allowing just 5.3 passing yards per attempt.

Indiana will look to generate a lot of their offense through their star wide receiver, Ty Fryfogle. He has 21 catches for 224 yards and one touchdown so far this season. The duo of Tariq Castro-Fields and Joey Porter Jr should be able to minimize Fryfogle’s impact.
