Penn State Football Reason to Worry – Rush Defense

Similar to the offensive side of the ball, the ground game has been an issue so far for this defense, though not to the same extent.

It has not been detrimental, but stopping the run is definitely the weakest part of this defense.

This Penn State Football team is allowing 3.3 yards per attempt on the ground so far this year, which is not terrible, but this team is talented enough to be better in that aspect.

While this Indiana team is not particularly great at running the ball, averaging 3.5 yards per carry, this Penn State team needs to make sure they keep the Hoosiers’ running game at bay.

If they don’t allow Indiana to get big chunks of yardage on the ground on first and second down and force them to have to pass, Penn State’s excellent secondary can get this defense off the field on third and long.

The Nittany Lions struggled to consistently stop the run against Wisconsin and Auburn, and although Indiana’s running game is not as good as theirs is, stopping the run is still an area that causes some concern moving forward on the defensive side of the ball.
