Locked and Loaded No. 5

285
Greg Kerkvliet
Record: 19-4
Preseason Rank: 5
2021 All-American

If you were to go back in time to early last season and ask me who was going to be Penn State Wrestling’s starter at 285, I wouldn’t have hesitated. Seth Nevills. Easy answer.

At that point in the year it looked very doubtful Penn State would see Greg Kerkvliet wrestle and it wasn’t out of the question if he would ever suit up for Penn State based on how much he had previously moved around.

But that all changed on the evening of February 22, 2021, as Kerkvliet made his surprising Penn State debut against Maryland.

And the rest, as they say, is history as Kerkvliet overcame incredible hurdles to defy all odds and not only wrestle last season but be crowned an All-American at 285.

There should be plenty of fireworks to witness this season in the 285 weight class as the B1G currently occupies the top three spots and six of the top seven ranked grapplers in the preseason rankings.

Hopefully Kerkvliet had a great offseason (read: healthy) because it’s going to be fun to watch him wreck havoc on other talented big men throughout the season.
