No Greg Kerkvliet for Penn State wrestling in 2021

While this isn’t exactly the news Penn State Wrestling fans wanted hear, it can’t be much of a surprise, but Greg Kerkvliet is not expected to compete this season.

Through each of the first three dual meets this season the question of “Is this when we finally get to see Greg Kerkvliet wrestle?” lingered. And in each of the dual meets we were met with Seth “Big Snacks” Nevills remaining the heavyweight starter and crushing each of his opponents along the way.

Well now with these comments coming from Coach Sanderson, the question has finally been answered:

A former No. 1 recruit, Kerkvliet has had an interesting college career to say the least.

Kerkvliet originally committed to in-state Minnesota, then switched gears to Oklahoma State, before finally signing his National Letter of Intent in November 2018 to commit to Ohio State. His bags are unpacked in Columbus and he’s ready to settle in, right? Nope. Just a month after signing with Ohio State, Kerkvliet announced he would be transferring from Ohio State to their Big Ten rival Nittany Lions.

Thank you Kyle Snyder!

And, since then we have not seen Greg wrestle a single dual meet match, his only appearances include matches in the 2020 Shorty Hitchcock Classic and the 2020 Mat-Town Open II.

Kerkvliet is a stud.

He’s a two-time United World Wrestling medalist for his age group and took home fifth in the 2019 U23 World Championships at 125kg. But, the question of “When will we see Greg Kerkvliet don the Blue and White and throw some other big dudes around?” still remains unanswered.
