Penn State Football TE Brenton Strange

Grade: A

Through the first two weeks of the season we have not seen the tight ends involved much in new offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich’s offense, but that changed in a big way Saturday night.

Strange caught four passes for 71 yards and a touchdown, the score coming off a beautiful play action and roll out on the goal line that left him wide open. He had a huge play in the fourth quarter when he caught a pass up the seam and rumbled down inside the five to set up an eventual Noah Cain touchdown.

On top of his production as a receiver, his entire skillset was on display both as a pass catcher and a blocker, in the run and pass game. Yurich uses Strange almost as a fullback at times and motions him into the backfield, as his versatility is a game changer for this offense.

We continue to hear form the players that we have only begun to scratch the surface with what we have seen from this offensive playbook, so it should be fun to monitor what else is in store for these tight ends, as Theo Johnson got involved as well catching a pass for 37 yards to set up the Nittany Lions first score of the game.
