Shrew adds Oweh to Penn State Basketball’s crew (but not the one you’re thinking of)

A familiar name to Penn State Football fans will be suiting up for Micah Shrewsberry and Penn State Basketball, as a walk on, this upcoming season

Penn State Basketball announced the signing of three walk-on’s for the 2021-2022 season and some familiar names will be wearing the blue and white this fall.

Dan Conlan, Ishaan Jagiasi and Kaylen Oweh have all been added to the Penn State Basketball roster.

Jagiasi, of Indian descent, played sparingly for a basketball powerhouse in West Virginia (Huntingdon Prep).  Dan Conlan played at Dickinson during the 2019-2020 season before transferring to Penn State.

This last name should sound familiar because yes, he is the son of All-American linebacker from Penn State Football, Shane Conlan. Dan averaged 6.0 points and 1.9 rebounds in just under 18 minutes a game as a freshman for the Red Devils.

But, the real fun here is Kaylen Oweh.

Oweh has an older brother, Odafe (formerly Jayson) whom you may have seen on Monday Night Football last night for the Baltimore Ravens, earning his first career sack.

Kaylen also has a younger brother, and it’s another name that Nittany Nation faithful should be familir with.

Otega Oweh, a four star recruit from New Jersey, has long been a target for Penn State Basketball since before Micah Shrewsberry took over for Pat Chambers/Jim Ferry.

Does the signing of his older brother to a walk-on role give the Lions a leg up on Otega’s recruitment? Penn State Basketball tried this strategy just two years ago with the Dorsey brothers.  They signed Caleb Dorsey, at pleast partly, in the hopes they could get his younger brother, Gabe Dorsey (who eventually signed with Vanderbilt).

Either way, these three signings are much needed for the 2021-2022 roster to at least give the rotation players some bodies to practice against and maybe they can crack the rotation one day!

Here is the Penn State Basketball 2021-2022 Roster

PG — Jaheam Cornwall, Sam Sessoms

SG — Jalen Pickett

SF — Seth Lundy, Myles Dread

PF — Greg Lee, Jevonnie Scott

C — John Harrar, Jalanni White
