Predicting 2021 Big Ten season: How many wins for Penn State Football?
By Nick Kreiser
Maryland showed signs of life last season. While they only went 2-3, their two wins were against Penn State Football and Minnesota. Granted, both those teams had down years, but give credit where it is due.
Maryland opens the season hosting West Virginia, which will be a tough win for them to get. They are a little lucky when it comes to Big Ten divisional crossover play, not having to face Wisconsin and getting Iowa at home.
Unfortunately for them, they are in a tough division where wins will be tough to come by. They are good enough to make many of their divisional games relatively close, but how many will they come out on top of?
The Terrapins will hope be led by returning quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa, brother of Miami Dolphins and former University of Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. For him to help lead his team to bowl eligibility, he will have to cut down on his interceptions. He threw seven interceptions in just four games played last season.
If recruiting is any indication, Maryland should be poised to continue an upward trend. Their 2020 recruiting class ranked sixth in the Big Ten, and their 2021 class fourth, according to 247 Sports composite rankings. Is a 7-5 record still a little bit of an optimistic prediction for the Terps? Probably, but what is the fun in making predictions if you don’t stretch the imagination a little?
