Penn State Basketball added graduate transfer Jalannie White Friday, adding another key piece to head coach Micah Shrewsberry’s roster
Penn State Basketball added a 12th player (finally) to its roster, announcing today the signing of 6’8″ graduate transfer Jalanni White.
White played at Canisius for his first four years and comes to the Nittany Lions with one year of eligiblity left. He started just over half his games for the Golden Griffins and averaged over 50% from the field. He started all 11 games Canisius played last year and averaged 7.0 points and 3.4 rebounds.
The West Haven, Connecticut native was a two star recruit coming out of high school and he earned MAAC All-Championship Team honors two years ago as a sophomore.
"“We are excited that Jalanni decided to join our family,” Shrewsberry said, of White’s signing. “He is an experienced player who will fit in nicely with our current group. His toughness, skill, length and athleticism will help us become a better team on both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor.”"
While it’s unlikely a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference graduate transfer will make a significant difference in his first (and only) season in the Big Ten Conference, he fills a significant position of need, giving the 2021-2022 Nittany Lions some frontcourt depth. With this signing, the roster now sits at:
PG — Jaheam Cornwall, Sam Sessoms
SG — Jalen Pickett,
SF — Seth Lundy, Myles Dread
PF — Greg Lee, Jevonnie Scott
C — John Harrar, Jalanni White
Other bench players: Caleb Dorsey (F), Dallion Johnson (G), Andy Christos (G)
Unknown: Previously signed 2021 recruit Elijah Hutchins-Everett (who signed with Pat Chambers, reopened his committment after his firing, recommitted to Shrewsberry four months ago, but isn’t listed on Penn State’s official roster)
