QB Brandon Wimbush (2015)

The high 4-star dual threat quarterback was one of the first big recruiting victories for James Franklin.

He committed to Penn State in May of 2014, just months into Franklin’s run in Happy Valley. Penn State’s struggles in 2014 led Wimbush to open his recruitment back up in October of 2014, he flipped to Notre Dame on the same day.

Wimbush went on to play in 20 games for the Fighting Irish over the course of three years. He completed 50.5% of his passes for 2,606 yards and 20 touchdowns with 12 interceptions.

Meanwhile, Trace McSorley was lighting up the scoreboard in Beaver Stadium.

Eventually, Wimbush transferred to UCF where he totaled 24 pass attempts.

You can thank Brandon Wimbush for opening the door for Trace McSorley.
