LB Dylan Rivers (2017)

Dylan Rivers was one of the first commits of the 2017 class, committing way back in November of 2015.

His commitment held until Jan. 22, 2017, less than two weeks from signing day. The 4-star linebacker would end up signing with Virginia Tech.

Rivers’ de-commitment was a shock, he along with Sean Clifford, were seen as the leaders of the class.

Penn State quickly pivoted and picked up Ellis Brooks in his place.

From 2017-19, Rivers appeared in 14 games for Virginia Tech. He totaled 42 tackles, two for loss and 1.5 sacks.

Unfortunately, Rivers suffered a neck injury that caused him to retire from football.

Brooks has been a key part of Penn State’s defense the last three years, piling up 130 tackles, 11.5 for loss and 4.5 sacks. He will be counted on in 2021, with Penn State’s short depth at the linebacker position.
