2. Multiple interior offensive line positions up for grabs

With center Michael Menet and right guard Will Fries entering the NFL Draft in April, Penn State Football will have to find two new starters along the interior of the offensive line.

Offensive line coach Phil Trautwein will finally get a normal offseason around his guys and will need it, as he will have to decipher between a few deserving candidates to form the best line possible heading into week 1 next year.

Last season, Mike Miranda started at left guard and was the backup center to Menet so he figures to kick over to the center position next fall, leaving the guard positions up for grabs.

Redshirt sophomore Juice Scruggs who battled back from a car accident injury started to see substantial playing time toward the end of the season and excelled at left guard, highlighted by a few pancake blocks in the Illinois game.

To fill the other guard position, redshirt junior Des Holmes figures to be the leader in the clubhouse after appearing in four games in 2020. The six-foot-five, 305 pound Holmes is a true road grader and brings a veteran presence compared to some of the younger offensive in the room.

Franklin did not mention early enrolled freshman Landon Tengwall when discussing potential interior option on Monday, which means Tengwall will most likely stay outside at tackle.

Another potential name to watch is redshirt senior Anthony Whigan who moved from tackle to guard and is facing his last chance at being a starter in this program.
