3. Ohio State Buckeyes

The numbers may not suggest Ohio State was elite defensively last season, however the Buckeyes are so deep with talent they could not far any further down these rankings.

Ohio State got a huge boost from the return of Haskell Garrett and Tyreke Smith along their defensive line for next season. The Buckeyes finished fourth in the conference with 21 sacks and were dominant in their week 2 win over Penn State Football in getting to the quarterback.

They will have to replace linebacker Tuf Borland who was the heart and should of the defense the past few seasons as well as defensive end Jonathan Cooper, however the dearth of five-star talent on the roster will only lead to a reloading of the defense, not a rebuilding.
