Coaches with Penn State ties …

Dan Earl (VMI Head Coach)

Earl is well known in Happy Valley, as he played his college ball here from 1999 to 2002. He went undrafted, but spent time in the New Jersey Nets training camps but never made a roster. He was an assistant from 2006-2011 here under Ed DeChellis and left for Navy with Ed. Earl was hired as the VMI head coach in 2015 and they’re having their best year in the Southern Conference (7-7 in conference thus far).

Jim Ferry (PSU Interim Head Coach)

As we all know, the former Duquesne Head Coach was hired as an assistant to Pat Chambers and was named Interim Head Coach when Chambers was fired. I think it’s fair to say he’s done a “fine” job under the most unusual of circumstances. He may have the best chance of keeping Harrar, Wheeler or Buttrick around for the fifth year, and has made references to having recruits ready to sign if he’s given the job.

Talor Battle (PSU Assistant Coach)

The Nittany Lions’ all-time leading scorer is not a stranger to anyone reading this article.  He helped PSU win the NIT in 2009, and led them to their most recent NCAA Tournament berth in 2011.  Probably the best player to put on the blue and white (until Lamar Stevens maybe), he was hired by Pat Chambers and retained by Jim Ferry.
