What our system would look like:

Peach Bowl:  #1 Alabama vs. #8 Cincinnati

The best team in the land against the team with maybe the most intrigue, the Bearcats. Alabama probably wins in a blowout right? But hey, they blew out Ohio State and Notre Dame, so why not give Cincy the chance to prove they can compete with the big boys?

Orange Bowl:  #2 Clemson vs. #7 Georgia

Who is not excited to watch this? This would have also served as a prelude to the two teams’ colossal week 1 matchup in 2021 that will take place in Charlotte. Trevor Lawrence against maybe the best defense i the nation? yes please.

Fiesta Bowl: #3 Ohio State vs #6 Oklahoma

Oklahoma lost two games early on and fell to 1-2. They responded by rattling off seven straight victories and looked like a different team. Two high powered offenses, two big-time quarterbacks and two of the brightest offensive minds squaring off in the desert, doesn’t get much better.

Cotton Bowl: #4 Notre Dame vs #5 Texas AM

The intrigue on selection Sunday came down to these two teams, so what better way to decide who is more worthy of competing for a championship than letting them play? I know, what a crazy idea, deciding these things ON THE FIELD.

College Football Playoffs – Semi-Finals

College Basketball ends their season with what might be the greatest sporting event in the world,  March Madness. A field of 68 teams that culminates in a Final Four weekend and then ultimately decides a champion.

So why not bring that Final Four to the gridiron?

Continuing to use last year’s team’s and format, the Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl would then play host to the Final Four.

I know what you are thinking, well we might end up with those same four and same matchup’s we had when the committee just picked four teams. That is entirely possible, but we accomplished three things.

1. We Kept more teams in playoff contention to the end of the year and added relevancy to more games and to conference championship games.

2. Maybe we got a classic? maybe Justin Fields and Spencer Rattler dueled in the desert in a 45-42 classic. Maybe we get an upset, maybe the Georgia defense made Trevor Lawrence look average, which would then give us Alabama – Georgia round 2, except this time the Bulldogs will have JT Daniels under center and it wont be in Tuscaloosa.

3. We got to actually decide things on the field. If Notre Dame beats Texas AM, so be it, the committee got it right, but I really hope I am not in the minority when I say i prefer to watch world class athletes decide things rather than a bunch of people sitting in a board room with computers.

The National Championship

Credit is due for the selection committee as they seem to always get it right, and the one maybe controversial decision they made putting Ohio State into the top four in 2015 was paid off, when the Buckeyes went on to win the National Title.

An eight game playoff might not make any difference as to who eventually takes home the title, however we will have a better sense that they truly earned it.

Alabama’s 2020 squad probably still rolls, I mean, they might have beat the New York Jets that night. They made the Buckeyes look like a MAC opponent, but that is okay becomes sometimes, like last year and in 2019 with that LSU team led by Joe Burrow, we are just witnessing greatness.

We have come across generationally great teams in the past few years, even including the 2018 Clemson Tigers who embarrassed Nick Saban and the Tide.

All three of those teams could easily be thrust into a top 10 teams of all time list. However, we can still celebrate and crown those teams while letting a few other campuses around the country celebrate when their name is called on selection Sunday.
