A lengthy Pennsylvania football history

James Franklin vowed during his introductory press conference that under his watch, Penn State Football would “dominate the state,” but at least in terms of recruiting that has not happened in recent cycles.

Franklin and defensive backs coach/defensive recruiting coordinator Terry Smith hail from Pennsylvania, but Yurcich has deep Pennsylvania football roots.

Yurcich played quarterback at California University of Pennsylvania, and spent five seasons at Edinboro as the Fighting Scots’ quarterbacks coach, wide receivers coach, and offensive coordinator, before a two-year stint at Shippensburg.

In addition to his scheme’s productivity on Saturdays, Yurcich’s familiarity with the high schools and coaching staffs at programs throughout western Pennsylvania from his time coaching in the PSAC could give Franklin a boost on the recruiting trail.

Perhaps Franklin and Yurcich could make some inroads on the Buckeyes’ recruiting dominance in recent seasons, particularly at home in the Keystone State.
