Penn State Football pass rusher Jayson Oweh declared for the 2021 NFL Draft Saturday afternoon

Penn State Football pass rusher Jayson Oweh declared for the 2021 NFL Draft on Saturday afternoon, joining tight end Pat Freiermuth as the second Nittany Lion to declare this week.

Oweh, 6-foot-5 and 252 pounds, is viewed as one of the more athletically gifted defensive prospects in this year’s class, but also among the most raw.

As a red-shirt sophomore this season, Oweh produced 38 total tackles, but failed to record a sack. In three seasons, Oweh produced seven sacks, two forced fumbles, and 53 total tackles.

"“Jayson has grown so much as a football player, leader, and man since he set foot on campus in 2018,” Penn State Football head coach James Franklin tweeted in a statement Saturday. “HIs growth and development demonstrate the level of his character and buy in to our program’s core values.“On the field, his hard work and dedication led him to be a First-Team All-Big Ten selection this season. I couldn’t be more proud of Jayson and appreciate everything he has done in our program.”"

Various mock draft projections list Oweh as a first-round pick, which would make his decision to forego his final two seasons of eligibility an easy choice.
