Penn State Football standout Micah Parsons will likely be the first former Nittany Lion chosen in the 2021 NFL Draft, but there’s a good chance he won’t be the only PSU linebacker chosen in Round 1

Former Penn State Football linebacker Micah Parsons will likely hear his named called among the top-10 picks in the 2021 NFL Draft, but he likely won’t be the only Nittany Lions linebacker to go off the board in Round 1.

Linebacker Jayson Oweh has flashed plenty of athleticism in the midst of a productive redshirt sophomore season, and dramatically boosted his draft stock in the process.

Oweh has produced 38 total tackles this season and emerged as one of the leaders on Penn State’s suddenly resurgent defense down the stretch.

In FanSided’s With The First Pick’s latest 2021 NFL Mock draft, Oweh goes off the board No. 19 overall to the New York Giants:

"High ceiling, extraordinary athlete, young and coachable. While Penn State edge rusher Jayson Oweh remains a bit raw and a one-trick pony as he continues to develop with the Nittany Lions, an NFL team is going to fall in love with the bend, explosiveness, and potential that Oweh brings to the table as he plays out his redshirt sophomore season. The New York Giants, the current leader of the abysmal NFC East, are now on the clock here and in need of some fire power off the edge of their defense. Oshane Ximines is proving to be nothing more than a rotational pass rusher, and they tradedMarkus Golden to the Arizona Cardinals at the deadline this year.Oweh lands in the Big Apple here to give the Giants what they have been looking for."

The Giants’ linebacking corps has dramatically improved this season, thanks to the addition of Blake Martinez and emergence of 2020 sixth and seventh-round picks Cam Brown (from Penn State), and Tae Crowder, but New York’s pass rush still leaves much to be desired.

Oweh’s 6-foot-5 and 257 pound frame give him the chance to step right in and anchor an outside linebacker spot opposite Lorenzo Carter, especially thanks to his explosive first-step and high-end bend.
