Penn State Football TE Pat Freiermuth declares for 2021 NFL Draft
Penn State Football tight end Pat Freiermuth declared for the 2021 NFL Draft on Sunday, emerging as a potential first-round pick
Penn State Football tight end Pat Freiermuth officially declared for the 2021 NFL Draft, as many expected he would, on Sunday afternoon.
Freiermuth caps one of the most prolific careers by a Penn State Football tight end in the program’s history, catching 92 passes for 1,185 yards and 16 touchdowns in two-plus seasons in Happy Valley.
"“From day one, Pat totally bought into our program and helped drive our culture forward,” Penn State head coach James Franklin said in a statement. “In the locker room, his actions were recognized by his teammates, as he was a two-time captain. On the field, his success was well documented as an All-American and All-Big Ten performer.”"
Despite only playing in four games this season, before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury against Nebraska, Freiermuth was named the Big Ten’s Kwalick-Clark Tight End of The Year.
In all likelihood, Freiermuth will be the second tight end to hear his name called next spring during the NFL Draft and he has a legitimate chance to follow in the footsteps of Giants running back Saquon Barkley, Eagles running back Miles Sanders, Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin, Denver Broncos wide receiver KJ Hamler, and Miami Dolphins tight end Mike Gesicki as Penn State skill players chosen in the first three rounds of the draft.
