Penn State Football falls to 0-5 for first time in program history
No heart on defense
Penn State football is traditionally known for defense and to be known as “Linebacker U” but right now they don’t have anyone on that side of the ball playing with any pride.
It should come to no surprise that Iowa is going to come in and try and punch you in the mouth, lining up in eye formation and run it right at you.
Penn State was either thrown off or just not up to the challenge, because Iowa ran for 175 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.
Iowa consistently blew Penn State off the ball, running for chunk yardage, bleeding the clock once they got up a few scores. Penn State safeties Lamont Wade and Jaquan Brisker led the team in tackles, which is a tell tale sign of the afternoon.
Penn State did end up with three sacks on the day, and one bright spot was senior defensive end Shaka Toney. Toney had two sacks and three tackles for loss, reeking havoc in Iowa’s backfield all afternoon.
Toney looked like one of the only Penn State defenders with any juice, as the defense noticeably looked deflated after Penn State’s first turnover, leading to a 17-7 Iowa lead. At this point Penn State needs to cycle in defenders on that front seven, looking for guys who want to play.
It’s starting to become fair to question just how invested this defense is, in the aftermath of Micah Parsons opting out pre-season, and the mounting losses.
