Defensive Backs

Grade: D+

The lone bright spot of the secondary has been redshirt freshman Joey Porter jr. Porter was voted as a starter by his teammates going into the first game of the season and has shown everyone why. Porter has a sack and two pass breakups thus far and has been the Nittany Lions best cover corner, even better then senior Tariq-Castro Fields.

The safeties Lamont Wade and Jaquan Brisker have been a disappointment to this point, seemingly out of position on more then a few occasions and allowing just to many big plays. The secondary ranks seventh in the Big Ten in passing yards allowed and has not gotten stops when needed this season. Indiana marched 75 yards in under two minutes to tie the game in week one, while Ohio State torched this secondary for 318 yards in week two.

At this point, getting young corners Keaton Ellis and Marquis Wilson more reps and focusing on there progression is key.

Next. Penn State's youth movement must continue ... what that looks like. dark
