Penn State Football: Position grades at midseason
Defensive Line
Grade: C+
The defensive line was another unit with high hopes coming into 2020, returning a lot of experience and talent, but to date hasn’t lived up to those expectations.
Senior defensive end Shaka Toney leads the unit in sacks, with only two, both coming in the first game of the season. The line has yet to generate constant pressure on opposing quarterbacks but has been solid against the run, ranking fifth in the conference allowing almost 130 yards per game on the ground.
Redshirt sophomore Jayson Oweh is a guy who many believe could be a early round draft pick in April’s NFL draft, but has not flashed as expected. Oweh has yet to record a sack this season and only four tackles for loss. Defensive tackles PJ Mustipher and Antonio Shelton have both been very good in the middle of the line.
