First half defense needs to be better

The Penn State football defense only surrendered 298 yards to Nebraska Saturday afternoon, allowing only three points in the second half.

That is back to back weeks the defense has kept the opposing offense out of the end zone in the second half, however it is too little too late to save the Nittany Lions.

The defense gave up 20 points in the first half, including a touchdown on the first drive of the game, putting Penn State in a 7-0 hole right off the bat.

The back-breaker of the first half came on a Nebraska end around that went untouched for a 45 yard touchdown. Quarterback Luke Mccaffrey had them off balance all day with the read option, attacking the secondary when necessary. On a positive note, the defense only allowed three second half points, including a huge turnover late in the fourth quarter that set up the Penn State offense at midfield.

The defense was ultimately not to blame for this loss, however you would still like to see them make more splash plays, whether it be turnovers or sacks to help out  a struggling offense.
