Heinz Field brings the most out of Penn State football alum Miles Sanders, a look at other Nittany Lions in the NFL

Miles Sanders loves playing in his hometown of Pittsburgh.

The Eagles running back, and Penn State football product, ran roughshod over the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday afternoon.

On the Eagles’ final offensive play of the first quarter, Sanders sprinted through the Steelers’ defense and dashed to the end zone for a 74-yard touchdown, his longest run of the season.

Prior to Sunday’s game, Sanders recalled the Nittany Lions’ 51-6 victory over Pitt in 2018 as his favorite memory of playing football in his hometown.

“Beating Pittsburgh,” Sanders told reporters Friday. “51-6. That’s all I’ve got to say.”

Sanders led the Eagles in rushing with 80 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries, while averaging 7.27 yards per attempt in the Eagles’ 38-29 loss to Heinz Field.

Here’s a look at how other Nittany Lions fared in Week 5 of the NFL season:

Carolina Panthers DE Yetur Gross-Matos

It was a quiet Sunday for Yetur Gross-Matos, one week after the Carolina Panthers rookie picked up his first sack.

Gross-Matos, the Panthers’ second-round pick in April’s NFL Draft, had one tackle and one quarterback hit in Carolina’s wild 23-16 win over the Atlanta Falcons.

Miami Dolphins TE Mike Gesicki

Gesicki continues to prove that he can develop into one of the NFL’s premier pass-catching tight ends.

Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers, Gesicki caught five of his six targets for 90 yards, but the highlight of Gesicki’s performance was a 70-yard catch and run down the sideline:

Jets K Sam Ficken

The Jets’ offense, behind quarterback Joe Flacco, was largely grounded in a 30-10 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

However, former Penn State kicker Sam Ficken made a 26-yard field goal, an extra point.
