Penn State Football: Position grades versus Indiana

Trace McSorley had an average game on Saturday, coming off a bad game last week vs. Michigan State. After not allowing McSorley to throw downfield at all last game, Penn State offensive coordinator Ricky Rahne was the complete opposite against Indiana.
McSorley was throwing deep early, where he was mostly way off target. He completed only 19 of his 36 passes, good for a completion percentage of 52.7. You have to imagine that several of these incompletions were due to the heavy winds mentioned early. The other incompletions were largely due to dropped passes, which also caused McSorley’s only interception in the game.
McSorley ended the game with 220 passing yards and no touchdowns, breaking his streak of 34 straight games with a touchdown pass. While it was difficult to move the ball through the air, McSorley had no problem getting things down on the ground.
McSorley had 107 rushing yards and a touchdown on 19 carries. This has become a common theme when Penn State’s offense hasn’t been able to get going this season.
Backup quarterback Tommy Stevens also saw some passing action on Saturday, as he completed his only pass of the day for a 23-yard touchdown.
Overall, it was a decent day for Trace McSorley, but most importantly, he did enough to get the win.
