I’m not even sure I want to make a prediction this week after how confident I was last week and how poorly it turned out. I was sure about my 25-point prediction, but I’ve learned my lesson a bit this week.

Penn State started slow in the first half last week, and I’m expecting the same this week. The combination of being on the road and being at night will equal a rough start for the Nittany Lions.

The defense was exposed last week, particularly in the secondary. Pittsburgh has an offense that can put up points. Running back Quadree Ollison is a dangerous runner who could find some running room against the Nittany Lions. Quarterback Kenny Pickett is dangerous running and throwing the ball.

Penn State is going to have to watch out for the pass and make sure that there’s good coverage on Pitt wide receiver Rafael Arajuo-Lopes. He hauled in two touchdown passes last week and could have a field day against a vulnerable Penn State secondary.

Fortunately, for as bad as the day could be on defense, the Nittany Lions will be able to put up enough points to leaver with a win. Look for another big day from Trace McSorley and running back Miles Sanders.

One to keep an eye on is KJ Hamler. The redshirt freshman showed how dangerous he can be last week and head coach James Franklin wants to get him more involved in the offense.

If Penn State can sure up the defense and avoid the major mistakes on special teams, a victory over the Panthers should be on tap.
