Secondary

I don’t know if there’s a more unpredictable unit in college football than Penn State football’s secondary. This group can play and has played well the majority of the time. However, it hasn’t found a true consistency yet.

Tanner Lee looked lost in the first half and a lot of that had to do with the defensive line. But, the secondary did some nice things as well. In the second half, they didn’t play well. There were some reserves in for the Nittany Lions, but everyone expected more out of Grant Haley, Amani Oruwariye and Christian Campbell, especially after such a fast start.

At times, it’s slap a bandaid on the cornerback position and pray it doesn’t rip off, but I’ll be fair to these guys. There’s been a lot of positives as well. They just need the good things to show up more.

On the bright side, the safeties for this team are still so quality. Marcus Allen managed just two tackles, but he’s always a threat to make plays. Troy Apke and Nick Scott also are difference makers. Scott has made it a habit recently of making key tackles on third downs. Keep an eye on the converted running back to safety. He’s got a nose for the ball.
