Week four of high school football season is in the books. So, here is VBR’s weekly look at how Penn State football commits performed over the weekend.

Throughout the 2017 football season I will take a look at how Penn State football commits perform in their high school football games each week. With high school football now in full swing across the country, there is plenty to talk about after this past weekend.

In the Commonwealth of Virginia running back Ricky Slade continued his fantastic senior season with another huge game this past Friday night. The CD Hylton Bulldogs lost on Friday by a 37-34 score in overtime to fall to 2-1 on the season, but it was not due to Slade. He rushed for 238 yards and three touchdowns in the Bulldogs’ tough loss.

Also in the Commonwealth of Virginia, there was another strong performance from offensive tackle Nana Asiedu. North Stafford High School and Asiedu improved to 4-0 on the season with a 70-27 victory over Fleming.

In Maryland, wide receiver Daniel George and Oxon Hill improved to 2-1 on the season with a 33-12 victory over Northwestern. George had seven receptions, which included a touchdown, in the victory. Defensive tackle PJ Mustipher and McDonogh lost to national powerhouse DeMatha Catholic 17-14. Mustipher helped anchor an Eagle defense that held the Stags to just 120 yards rushing.

To the east in New Jersey, five-star wide receiver Justin Shorter and South Brunswick improved to 2-0 on the season with a 35-7 victory over New Brunswick. Shorter was kept in check though as he had two receptions, two carries, and 16 yards of total offense.

Defensive end Paramus Catholic and Dorian Hardy earned a 33-30 overtime victory over Seaton Hall Prep to improve to 2-1 on the season. Hardy finished the night with seven tackles, a sack, and he forced a fumble.

In the Midwest, Friday night was not a good one for Penn State commits not named AJ Reed. Reed and Muskegon High School improved to 4-0 on the season with a 63-14 victory. Reed helped pave the way for a quartet off 100+ yard rushers for Muskegon on Friday night.

Meanwhile, things were not nearly as optimistic for offensive lineman Bryce Effner and kicker Jake Pinegar. While Effner made his 2017 season debut on Friday night after missing the first three games with mono, Metea Valley lost 36-14 to Wheaton North to fall to 0-4 on the season. As for Pinegar, he suffered a season-ending knee injury on Friday night. We here at Victory Bell Rings wishes Pinegar all the best and a speedy recovery.

Defensive tackle Aeneas Hawkins has yet to play this season for Archbishop Moeller due to an injury.

Back here in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, safety Isheem Young had his night ended earlier due to injury. Tight end Zack Kuntz had 152 receiving yards and a touchdown in a 52-6 Camp Hill victory over James Buchanan.

In Northwestern Pennsylvania linebacker Jesse Luketa and Mercyhurst Prep improved to 4-0 with a 35-7 victory over Conneaut. Luketa had five tackles, an interception, and he scored a pair of touchdowns on offense. Erie Cathedral Prep and lineman Juice Scruggs also remained perfect on the season by defeating Benedictine out of Ohio 62-28. The blocking of Scruggs helped lead the way to Cathedral Prep posting over 600 yards of total offense.

Shaquon Anderson-Butts and Harrisburg High improved to 3-0 on the season with a 45-0 victory over Pottsville. SAB caught a pair of passes for 80 yards and a touchdown to go with an interception on defense.

Pennridge improved to 3-1 on the season with a 34-3 victory over Souderton. Penn State commit Nick Tarburton had three tackles, a tackle for a loss, and 32 receiving yards. Charlie Katshir and Cumberland Valley defeated Bishop McDevitt 49-23 to improve to 3-0 on the season. Katshir ran for a pair of touchdowns and had an interception in the victory.

Class of 2019 commit Keaton Ellis and the State College Little Lions decimated Mifflin County 56-7 to remain perfect on the season. Ellis had three receptions for 78 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He also had a tackle and a pass breakup.

Down in the Sunshine State Judge Culpepper and Plant High School had the week off. Meanwhile, Wiregrass Ranch and cornerback Jordan Miner had their game canceled due to Hurricane Irma.

Both of Penn State’s Texan commits were victors this past weekend. Trent Gordon and Manvel High School finally started their season after dealing with fallout from Hurricane Harvey and they picked up a 45-7 victory. Gordon finished the game with six tackles and a pass breakup.

Meanwhile, in Sachse, Texas, the Mustangs and Isaiah Humphries improved to 3-0 on the season with a dominating 61-0 victory over Mesquite. Humphries continued his strong senior campaign with two tackles, a pass breakup, and his third interception of the season.

Finally, in the New England states, there was quarterback Will Levis. Levis was 25-for-36 through the air for 316 yards and four touchdowns as he led the Xavier Falcons to a 30-14 victory over Newtown.
