Coaching

The coaching staff gets an A+ in this one because they let the players make plays. A good coaching staff doesn’t put the shackles on its team and has a deep confidence in the group. Trace McSorley didn’t have a great game against Pitt, but offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead went right back to him and allowed the passing game to operate.

Saquon Barkley didn’t get too much work which was a smart decision on all the coach’s part. He’s the team’s most important asset, and they opted to give him just 10 carries on the night. This staff made the right decisions on when players should exit the game and didn’t put star players in vulnerable positions.

Penn State football’s offense made great play calls and began to peel back some of the new offensive wrinkles as well. We got to see more Tommy Stevens formations and Miles Sanders add in some nice carries. Anytime a team is 3-0 averaging 47 points per game and allowing just 4.7 points per game, the coaches deserve a lot of credit.

Grade: A+
