Penn State vs. Georgia Position Grades
By Shane Lunnen
Secondary:
Not horrible, but not a good enough day for the Penn State secondary. Georgia didn’t throw a lot in this one, but on two occasions they beat Penn State for touchdowns.
On the first score, receiver Terry Godwin took the ball out of the wildcat formation and threw a 44 yard bomb to receiver Malcolm Mitchell for the score. Mitchell ran a post route and burned right by Malik Golden. One has to wonder: what if had Jordan Lucas been back there instead? Near the end of the first half, Godwin made a great catch in front of two Penn State defenders in the endzone.
Other than those scores, Penn State only allowed 161 yards total passing. Grant Haley and Marcus Allen were probably the best Nittany Lions in the secondary, contributing a combined 13 tackles and two tackles for loss. Allen also forced a fumble that unfortunately rolled out of bounds before Penn State could jump on it.
