Running Backs

Finally, a solid day from the Nittany Lions backfield. Penn State was able to run for 162 yards and gain 4.4 yards per carry. Those numbers though, were skewed in both directions. A tremendous 92-yard scamper by Bill Belton drives that number up, but so do the -22 yards Christian Hackenberg finished with thanks to five sacks. Overall, it was a great day (by their standards) for the rushing attack. After enduring his share of struggles, Belton eclipsed 100 yards for the fourth time in his career and the first time this year. Belton also added a few more key and decisive runs to his 92-yarder, giving him 137 yards for the day. Akeel Lynch didn’t get a whole lot going, but had a few solid runs and continued to get up field and fight through tackles. Good effort from this group.
