Michigan at Alabama (-12.5)

Two of the most storied programs in college football history cap the opening Saturday of the season at Cowboys Stadium.  Michigan is out to prove Brady Hoke’s first season was no fluke, and Alabama looks to add to Nick Saban’s legend in Tuscaloosa.

Matt – Alabama

12.5 is a lot of points, but I think Alabama covers pretty handily.  The Tide’s defense will bottle up Michigan’s running game, especially if Toussaint does not play, and make Denard a passer, exactly what Michigan can’t have.

Tim – Alabama

This is a big spread but I think Michigan is terribly overrated. Denard’s speed will be as close to neutralized as possible and once he’s forced to throw, it could get ugly.

Craig – Michigan

This game is the toughest to pick. Bama has the advantage with more talent, and they just haven’t lost a whole lot recently. I’m not sold on Michigan’s defense and feel like their offense is too focused on Denard. However, I am going to side with B1G brother UM and say they keep it within the 12.5.

Corey – Michigan

The Wolverines are looking to make a statement for the Big Ten as they try to compete with the Crimson Tide from the SEC.  Alabama has pretty green defense as they try to contain Heisman-hopeful Denard Robinson.  I think ‘Bama has just enough to make Robinson a one-dimensional QB, but they won’t cover the the 12.5.

Chris – Alabama

12.5 is a lot, but even a “reloading” Alabama is way too much for Denard Robinson and Michigan.  The Crimson Tide defense has enough athletes all over to neutralize the running of Robinson, and force him into mistakes through the air.  Alabama’s offense isn’t flashy, but it’s efficient, and will take advantage of the Michigan mistakes.
