Complete guide to Penn State vs. Clemson Pinstripe Bowl: How to watch, odds, and more
The last time Penn State played in this bowl game was 2014 and the temperature then didn't drop below 50 degrees. Against the Tigers, the teams will play in a winer storm warning with temperatures dropping into the teens and elevating to only 33 degrees.
The Bronx, N.Y. is in the winter storm warning from 4 p.m. Friday through 1 p.m. Saturday. There is a 55 percent chance of snow on Saturday with freezing drizzle also possible. According to Accuweather, there is a 62 percent chance of three to six inches of precipitation.
The U.S. National Weather Service also warned the possibility of heavy snow and up to nine inches between Friday and Saturday. It wrote to be aware of slick roads, low visibility, and difficult travels. The heaviest snowfall is expected from 6 p.m. ET to midnight.
The good news for the Nittany Lions is that they're used to the weather. While it's been nearly a year since playing in frigid temperatures, interim head coach Terry Smith says his players are used to practicing in this weather. Saturday's snowy and cold conditions won't phase them as much as it may the Tigers.
Coming up from South Carolina, Clemson is in for a weather-induced, challenging atmosphere. The Tigers haven't played in New York since 1952 and head coach Dabo Swinney hasn't been a part of a game played in the snow ever. While Swinney said he and his team are embracing the weather and experience, the lack of practice in the conditions give Penn State an upper hand.
The conditions are expected to impact the start of the game, especially, as a chance of snow still lingers early in the afternoon. Clemson might need some time adjusting to the stark difference in weather compared to what they're used to. During that time, the Nittany Lions can get off to a fast start.
Penn State is currently listed as the underdog against the Tigers as of Friday afternoon. Clemson is a 2.5-point favorite, according to FanDuel. Kickoff at Yankee Stadium is slated for 12 p.m. ET.
