Former Penn State and current Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis will be sidelined for his third pro season due to a shoulder injury and deciding to undergo surgery on Tuesday, July 29. A statement was released by the Titans, reading:

"After consulting with doctors and his representatives, [Levis] has decided to undergo shoulder surgery that will sideline him for the entire 2025 season. We support his decision to focus on his long-term health. He approached the offseason with professionalism and showed clear growth as a leader. We remain confident in his full recovery."

Over his first two seasons with Tennessee, Levis totaled a 61 completion percentage, throwing 339 passes for 3,899 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Levis participated in OTAs in May and June as well as the three-day minicamp with the Titans. He practiced with private quarterbacks coach Jordan Palmer as well in the offseason, according to Tennessee Titans reporter Jim Wyatt. The former Nittany Lion got the most reps in before training camp and was expected, both by the team and himself, to compete for the backup quarterback position in the depth chart alongside veterans Brandon Allen and Tim Boyle. Rookie Cameron Ward will take the starting role for the Titans.

Tennessee enters training camp with just three quarterbacks now and Ward is the most likely to take the starting role. The former Miami Hurricanes passer was the first overall selection of the 2025 NFL Draft.

When hearing the news of Levis' surgery, Ward's comments to media were misinterpreted as rude and unsympathetic. However, in his full response, Ward wished Levis well in his recovery and commended the 26-year-old quarterback for making the best decision for himself and instilling good practice habits in the younger players during the offseason.

As a Nittany Lion, Levis played two seasons after redshirting as a true freshman. He then transferred to Kentucky for his remaining two years of college eligibility. Levis was a third-round selection of the 2023 NFL Draft, going No. 33 overall to the Titans.

The quarterback had a 64.9 collegiate career completion percentage with 479 passes for 5,877 yards and 46 touchdowns. Levis also rushed 312 times in his overall career for 742 yards and 17 touchdowns. He broke 2,000 passing yards both seasons as a Wildcat, as a redshirt junior and redshirt senior. At Penn State, specifically, he had a 59.8 completion percentage throwing 61 completions for 644 yards and three touchdowns before transferring.
