The best undrafted free agents in Penn State football history
By Josh Yourish
Kenny Watson was another hybrid player at Penn State and that adversely affected his draft stock. Watson was primarily a kick returner for the Nittany Lions and only had 27 career rushes and 21 career receptions. It was no surprise that he went undrafted, but his career in the NFL was a big shock.
Washington put Watson in the backfield and as a rookie, he ran for 534 yards and posted 787 yards from scrimmage. He signed in Cincinnati after that and spent the final six years of his career with the Bengals.
Watson’s best season came in 2007 as a 29-year-old 6-foot tall fullback. He carried the ball 178 times for 763 yards and caught 52 passes for 372 yards. It was the only 1,000-yard season of his career and quite an impressive year for an undrafted player.
