Social media can’t get enough of Andy Kotelnicki sending offensive lineman in motion

Penn State's new offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki has been very creative in the first half against UCLA with the Nittany Lions up 14-3.

Penn State is playing a bit shorthanded against UCLA in Week 6 at Beaver Stadium. Star running back Nicholas Singleton, who was listed as questionable pregame, did not take a snap in the first half, instead, he was replaced by true freshman Quinton Martin Jr. in a time-share with Kaytron Allen.

However, offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki was able to get things going for quarterback Drew Allar who finished the first half 10/14 for 129 yards and a touchdown, and Penn State leads 14-3 over the 1-3 UCLA Bruins.

After a slow start offensively, with back-to-back punts, Kotelnicki got very creative on a 16-play touchdown drive that chewed up 8:36 of the clock to take a 7-0 lead. The drive ended with an Allar rushing touchdown on a quarterback sneak with seven offensive linemen on the field, but that’s not the most unique way the Nittany Lions used their biggest offensive players.

Twice on that drive, Kotelnicki inserted JB Nelson at left guard and lined up starting left guard Vega Ioane in the slot. Before the snap, Allar sent Ioane in motion, and the 348-pound redshirt sophomore destroyed a UCLA defensive lineman.

Penn State fans have loved Kotelnicki’s creativity this season and it has unlocked Allar and the offense. While that play went for a modest Allen run, Kotelnicki is still getting plenty of praise on social media.

Kotelnicki has been so good that even NFL fans have taken notice. However, the 100,000+ at Beaver Stadium today would prefer to keep their first-year OC in Happy Valley for the foreseeable future.

Some want Kotelnicki to go even further and give his big man the football. With the way Kotelnicki has been calling this game against UCLA, that may not be off the table.
