Penn State potential transfer portal wide receiver targets to replace KeAndre Lambert-Smith

Andy Kotelnicki and Drew Allar need some weapons to make the offense work and it might be up to James Franklin to go into the transfer portal and find them.

Ross-Simmons is another big receiver who hasn’t played in the slot in his two seasons with Colorado State. However, he is a more viable downfield target for Allar who can stretch the field with his size and may have enough athleticism after the catch to slide inside.

Only 18.1% of his targets came more than 20 yards downfield, but he averaged 18.69 yards per route run on deep routes and took two of his five receptions on those deep shots to the end zone.

The other big strength for Ross-Simmons which can be difficult for some big receivers, is yards after the catch. He averaged 9.7 yac/rec and 13.0 yards per reception on passes within nine yards of the line of scrimmage.

I’m not sure that Ross-Simmons has the field-stretching speed element that Penn State needs, but I do believe that he can use his size over the middle as an oversized slot receiver and be very friendly to Allar.

He may not be a better player than Brown from Houston, but he is a better fit, and with two years of eligibility remaining he can move back outside in 2025.
