Penn State football recruiting round-up: Nittany Lions add big pieces to future classes
By Josh Yourish
James Franklin and his coaching staff have been busy on the recruiting trail and in many cases, they’ve moved on to the future classes, and away from the 2025 group that currently stands 22 strong and is ranked No. 16 in the country. This past week, Penn State added 2025 three-star defensive lineman Yvan Kemajou but also added three commits to the 2026 class and the first commitment to the 2027 group.
Penn State 2026 recruiting class additions
Last Saturday, July 27, Penn State added a headline recruit to the 2026 class with four-star offensive tackle Kevin Brown who according to the 247Sports Composite rankings is the No. 1 player in Pennsylvania and the fifth-best offensive tackle in the nation. That same day, the Nittany Lions also earned a commitment from Jahsiear Rogers, a three-star wide receiver from Delaware.
With Brown and Rogers joining quarterback Troy Huhn and four-star athlete Messiah Mickens, Penn State’s class started to take shape. Then, Daniel Jennings a four-star edge from Princeton, West Virginia, announced his commitment on Wednesday, and Lavar Keys became the sixth player in the class on Friday. Keys is a three-star wide receiver from Hyattsville, Maryland.
It’s incredibly early, but with those six players planning to play their college ball in Happy Valley, Penn State’s 2026 class ranks No. 1 in the country. Franklin and wide receivers coach Marques Hagans have struggled to land dynamic outside playmakers in the 2024 and 2025 classes, so it’s evident that the strategy has shifted to early identification of rising talent in future classes to bolster that position group.
Penn State 2027 recruiting class addition
Heading into just his sophomore season of high school football, Kemon Spell, a star running back from McKeesport, PA has made a very early decision to commit to the Nittany Lions. Spell, another WPIAL running back from Western Pennsylvania follows Quinton Martin Jr. from Belle Vernon, who was a standout as a freshman in the Blue-White Game this Spring, and 2025 commit Tiqwai Hayes from Aliquippa.
