Penn State football has never played these FBS teams

The Penn State Nittany Lions have played 93 different FBS teams and have beaten 85 of them, but that still leaves an additional 34 teams that the Nittany Lions have never matched up against. With the expanded playoff, maybe Penn State could meet some first-time opponents, but the limited non-conference schedule will make it tough.

C-USA

  • Liberty
  • MTSU
  • UTEP
  • Western Kentucky

Unsurprisingly, the Nittany Lions have played every team in the Big Ten and Big 12, but have only played five total games against Conference USA opponents. Penn State is 4-1 in those five matchups with the only loss coming to Houston when the Cougars were in the conference. Now, Liberty looks like one of the best Group of Five teams, so there is a chance that the Flames sneak into the 12-team playoff one year and meet Penn State.

MAC

  • Miami (Ohio)
  • Western Michigan

Penn State has two MAC teams on the 2024 schedule with Bowling Green and Kent State. Penn State has never beaten Toledo, but Miami and Western Michigan are the only two MAC teams that have never been on the schedule for the Nittany Lions. Expect these two to visit Beaver Stadium at some point soon. Penn State is 37-2 against the MAC.
