Toledo
The 2000 season was one of Penn State’s most disappointing years. It began with a 29-5 loss to USC at a neutral site to open the year, but then the Nittany Lions returned home to face Toledo for the first time, and things went from bad to worse.
Toledo handled Penn State 24-6 and the teams have not played since. The Nittany Lions started the season 1-4 after beating Louisiana Tech and losing to Pitt and Ohio State. Joe Paterno’s team finished the year 5-7, the first of four losing seasons in five years to start the 21st century.
