Penn State fans ready to panic after Bowling Green’s hot start and early lead
By Josh Yourish
The vibes were high in Happy Valley coming off Penn State’s Week 1 win over West Virginia in Morgantown 34-12. Penn State’s new offense found its footing under new offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki and new DC Tom Allen shut down WVU’s elite rushing attack.
However, in Week 2, the good vibes disappeared quickly. Bowling Green marched right down the field on the first drive of the game for a touchdown. It was the first opening drive touchdown that Penn State’s defense had allowed in the past 28 games.
Then, the Falcons proved that it wasn’t a fluke. Bowling Green scored on each of its first three drives, taking a 17-7 lead of the Nittany Lions. Sixth-year quarterback Connor Bazelak has started the game 13-15 for 167 yards and two touchdowns. Bazelak is playing against his former head coach, Tom Allen from the veteran QBs lone season at Indiana.
The Bowling Green hot start and lack of answer from Allen’s defense have Penn State fans ready to panic about a Week 2 disaster.
After Bowling Green’s second scoring drive, Penn State marched right down the field with a response for Bowling Green. Drew Allar answered Bazelak with a deep touchdown throw to Omari Evans. The Nittany Lions could have a shootout in store with their MAC competition. However, that doesn’t feel good for the Penn State faithful.
Penn State fans aren’t just worried about losing this game, but about the team’s College Football Playoff hopes for the year.
Penn State still has plenty of time to respond, but Allen needs to figure out his defense to get a stop.
