Big Ten point guard power rankings: Ace Baldwin/Braden Smith drop double-digit dimes
By Josh Yourish
If you were thinking about the type of point guard performance you would want in a big game, you’d end up with something around 28 points, eight assists, two turnovers, and 6-6 from the free throw line. That was Young’s exact stat line over the weekend against No. 10 Illinois in a 76-67 Maryland win.
Young only shot 11-24 in the game, but he was excellent and carried the Terps to a road win over a top-10 team. The fifth-year senior is in his second season at Maryland and has increased his efficiency and scoring output over his 2022-23 campaign.
Last season, Young came up rather small in the Big Ten and NCAA Tournament, only averaging 12.3 points and 1.8 assists in Maryland’s four postseason games. He will need to prove himself in March this year, but so far he’s been excellent in the regular season.
