Beaver Stadium capacity: The 5 biggest crowds in Penn State football history
By Josh Yourish
2. No. 10 Penn State 15 vs. No. 3 Michigan 24
Even after a loss to Ohio State a few weeks earlier, Penn State fans still packed Beaver Stadium to see the Nittany Lions host No. 3 Michigan with its CFP hopes on the line once again. Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh was suspended for the contest, but offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore coached the Wolverines to a 24-15 win without J.J. McCarthy throwing a single pass in the second half.
The capacity+ crowd went home frustrated after James Franklin and Penn State blew another chance to elevate itself into the national championship conversation. The Nittany Lions were a clear third place in the Big Ten, lagging well behind Michigan and Ohio State, but after Michigan's undefeated national title run, the loss looks a bit more excusable.
Drew Allar attempted 22 passes but only completed 10 for 70 yards and a touchdown. The offensive ineptitude on display in front of 110,856 fans at Beaver Stadium was enough for James Franklin to fire offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich. Penn State finished the year 10-3 with a loss to Ole Miss in the Peach Bowl.
