Announcers for UCLA vs. Penn State on FOX in Week 6
By Josh Yourish
Penn State opened up Big Ten play last Saturday and got to 4-0 on the 2024 season with a 21-7 win over Illinois at Beaver Stadium. The top-20 matchup between the Nittany Lions and Fighting Illini was featured in primetime on NBC’s Big Ten Saturday night, and this week when James Franklin and the No. 7 team in the country host the 1-3 UCLA Bruins, FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff crew will make the trip to Happy Valley.
UCLA is already 0-2 in the Big Ten after joining the conference officially this offseason. In Week 5, DeShaun Foster’s Bruins fell to the Oregon Ducks 34-13 at the Rose Bowl after losing to Indiana 42-13 in Week 3. Big Ten play isn’t new for the Bruins, but this will, be UCLA’s first Big Ten road game in program history and the first meeting between the Bruins and Nittany Lions since 1968.
The pressure is on Franklin to make the 12-team College Football Playoff this year, his 11th in Happy Valley, and while his team passed its first big test of the season last week with a dominant defensive performance, this matchup will be a great measuring stick. Aside from Ohio State, which Penn State will host later this year, Oregon is the Nittany Lion’s biggest competition for a spot in the Big Ten championship. After Saturday, the two will have played a common opponent in the Bruins.
It’s certainly not Penn State’s biggest matchup at Beaver Stadium this year, and James Franklin didn’t call for “White Out Energy,” but it’s an important enough Big Ten game for FOX to send their No. 1 broadcasting crew to Happy Valley.
Who are the announcers for UCLA vs. Penn State?
FOX play-by-play announcer Gus Johnson will be joined in the booth by former Colorado quarterback Joel Klatt on color commentary with Jenny Taft reporting from the sidelines. This is the second time FOX’s No. 1 crew has announced a Penn State game this season, the first was in Week 1 at West Virginia.
