Blackledge had three 1,000-yard passing seasons and started over 30 games in his Penn State career, but the eventual first-round draft pick of the Kansas City Chiefs is best remembered for leading the 1982 Nittany Lions to the National Championship.
That year, Blackledge threw for 2,218 yards and 22 touchdowns to 14 interceptions. He finished sixth in Heisman Trophy voting. Penn State didn’t go undefeated, but after beating No. 1 Georgia in the Sugar Bowl and taking down three of four top-five ranked teams throughout the year, the Nittany Lions were awarded the national title.
