A College Football Hall of Famer, Lucas played from 1957-59, starting 29 games and throwing for 1,822 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Playing during an era where the quarterback was not the most important player on the field, Lucas starred in 1959 rushing for an additional 325 yards and six touchdowns along with his 913 passing yards and five touchdowns. He finished second in Heisman Trophy voting that season and led Rip Engle’s Nittany Lions to a 9-2 record and Liberty Bowl victory. That 1959 Liberty Bowl win was Penn State’s first bowl game victory in program history.
