Chuck Fusina was the first and one of two Penn State quarterbacks to be named a consensus All-American. In 1978, Fusina led Penn State to an 11-0 record before falling to Alabama with a national championship on the line. Despite that loss, Fusina was excellent that season, throwing for 1,859 yards and 11 touchdowns with 12 interceptions, finished second in Heisman Trophy voting, and won the Maxwell Award, but he was even better the year before.
Penn State also went 11-1 in 1977 behind Fusina and finished the year with a Fiesta Bowl win. Fusina threw for 2,221 yards and 15 touchdowns to just nine picks. He averaged a staggering 9.0 yards per attempt fifth best in the country.
