Penn State football is back in action, but not all Nittany Lions will be out on the field Saturday vs. Michigan.
This is their last game before their bye week, so Week 8 will be a good time for players without long-term or season-ending injuries to rest up and recover. As for what the team looks like for Saturday's game in Ann Arbor, there aren't too many changes or surprises on the injury report. Head coach Matt Campbell gave injury updates on a few players earlier in the week, and Saturday's report aligns with his updates.
Two players who were taken off the injury report are cornerback Josiah Zayas and running back Carson Hansen. Both are huge helps to Penn State's defense and offense, respectively. Zayas has had 13 total tackles (10 solo, three assisted), two tackles for loss, one fumble recovery, one interception, one pass defended, and one defensive touchdown so far this season. Hansen and the run game have started finding a better rhythm as Big Ten play continues.
Here's the full injury report for the Nittany Lions ahead of the 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff.
OUT
- TE Cooper Alexander
- DT Liam Andrews
- CB Tyler Armstead
- DE LaVar Arrington II
- DE Dayshaun Burnett
- DE Max Granville
- WR Koby Howard
- CB Joshua Johnson
- DE Mason Robinson
- K Christiano Rosa
- LB Alex Tatsch
- OL Will Tompkins
There are no surprises on this injury report for Nittany Lions ruled out for Saturday's contest. Campbell discussed where Howard was in his recovery and expects him to return after the Week 8 bye. Penn State's game vs. Purdue is the earliest return date for Howard based on the latest update.
Tatsch sustained a season-ending injury at a bad time for the Nittany Lions. With the linebacker room looking faulty given Kooper Ebel's lack of success, it would have been nice to see Tatsch take on a bigger role and provide some support at that position.
PROBABLE
- DE Yvan Kemajou
- DT Armstrong Nnodim
- LB Cam Smith
- WR Chase Sowell
Sowell had a brief injury scare during the USC game at the end of the first half, but returned for the second half without any problems, though he didn't have another catch in the contest. Without Howard, Sowell has stepped up as the prime wide receiver for quarterback Rocco Becht. Becht needs as many weapons as possible on offense to spread the ball around and pick up chunk plays.
