Penn State football takes on No. 19 USC in the White Out Saturday night. This Week 6 contest heading into the season was considered a pivotal game for the Nittany Lions (3-2, 0-2 Big Ten) as it was expected for them to be in a good spot after Week 5. While that ended up not being the case, they still have an opportunity to upset the Trojans and pull off a statement White Out win at home.
Ahead of the matchup, both teams released their injury reports. Not much is different for the blue and white, but USC has a few questionable players that could give Penn State an advantage on Saturday.
This story will be updated until kickoff.
OUT
- Cooper Alexander, TE
- Tyler Armstead, CB
- LaVar Arrington II, DE
- Christian Askew, CB
- Dayshaun Burnett, DE
- Max Granville, DE
- Koby Howard, WR
- Joshua Johnson, CB
- Mason Robinson, DE
- Cristiano Rosa, K
- Alex Tatsch, LB
- Will Tompkins, OL
- Cam Smith, LB
Tatsch is the most notable injury update on this list. He was listed as questionable earlier in the week, but was downgraded for Saturday's contest officially to "Out." While Tony Rojas and Kooper Ebel anchor that linebacker room, Tatsch's absence is more notable in comparison to someone like Smith who was also downgraded in last week's injury report vs. Northwestern. That room still has Cael Brezina, but it will be Rojas and Ebel picking up a majority of the workload without Tatsch or Smith.
QUESTIONABLE
- Armstrong Nnodim, DT
Nnodim and Tatsch were the "Questionable" players earlier in the week, and now it's just Nnodim. The defensive tackle has played in three games for Penn State since Week 3 vs. Buffalo. He's logged eight total tackles and one tackle for loss.
If Nnodim isn't good to go or is limited on Saturday in terms of snaps, defensive coordinator D'Anton Lynn might put a little more on Keanu Williams and Siale Taupaki. The two lead the Nittany Lions' tackle room in total tackles so far this season and have the most NCAA experience. Ty Blanding, Alijah Carnell, and Dallas Vakalahi haven't been impact players for Lynn, so it'll be interesting to see which one will pick up the pace against the Trojans to help out Williams and Taupaki.
Notable USC injuries: Jahkeem Stewart, Trent Mosley, Mark Bowman, and Jide Abasiri listed as QUESTIONABLE
Wide receiver Mosley and tight end Bowman are two of USC's starters on offense. Defensive tackles Abasiri and Stewart are the Trojans' starter and backup, respectively. The true freshman wideout has tallied 13 catches for 255 yards and four touchdowns over three games. Bowman, also a true freshman, has had 21 receptions for 204 yards and two touchdowns across five contests.
The junior starter on defense has had 16 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and one sack on the season (six games). If Abasiri is limited or downgraded to out before the game, Stewart's likelihood to step in and be an impact on the defense when also listed as questionable is doubtful.
Another notable injury is starting left guard Hayden Treter listed as doubtful for Saturday night. He played in the first five games for USC as well as Kaylon Miller. Miller stepped in Week 5 vs. Washington as Treter was questionable and ultimately did not play.
