Two desperate, winless Big Ten teams desperately meet at The Big House on Saturday.

There have been a number of disappointing teams in the Big Ten through the first six weeks, and Michigan and Penn State are near the top of that list. Michigan comes off its bye week at 3-2 and winless in conference play after falling to Iowa and Minnesota in back-to-back weeks. If not for a last-second (or extra second) hail mary in Week 1, Michigan would be 2-3 on the year.

Penn State is facing an even more dire situation because while it appears that Michigan is a talented team underachiever with its first-year coach, the Nittany Lions don’t seem to have the talent to compete in the Big Ten after a 0-3 start to conference play. Matt Campbell’s team put up a fight against USC in Week 6, eventually falling 31-23, but even the one-score loss further revealed the roster’s deficiencies.

Both teams are in desperate need of their first conference victory in Week 7, and the loser of this game will sink even further in what is already shaping up to be a disastrous season. At least with just two losses, Michigan still theoretically has a shot at the College Football Playoff, while Penn State’s chances were officially dashed last Saturday in the White Out at Beaver Stadium.

Weather forecast in Ann Arbor

It does not appear that the weather should have much of an impact on Saturday’s game in the afternoon at The Big House. The forecast calls for sunny skies with a high of 51 degrees, a low heading toward 36 degrees, and only nine mph winds. It’s mid-October football weather for sure, but the best version, where the elements don’t appear likely to alter the proceedings on the field.
