No. 2 Penn State just beat Florida International in Week 2, but the offense was disappointing. In Week 3, head coach James Franklin said he's hoping for quarterback Drew Allar and running back Nicholas Singleton to let go of the perfectionism, get out on Saturday, and leave it all on the field.

The Nittany Lions (2-0) are set to take on Villanova, their third and final non-conference game of the season. The Wildcats are coming off a win against Colgate, but the FBS-FCS matchup should fall in Penn State's favor.

Penn State–Villanova series history

This will be the 11th time Penn State and Villanova meet in program history, the first game between the two coming in Sept. 2005. The Nittany Lions lead 6-3-1 in series history.

The last time these two teams met was Sept. 25, 2021 when Penn State won 38-17 with former quarterback Sean Clifford under center throwing for 401 yards and four touchdowns. The Nittany Lions held a 38-3 lead up to the fourth quarter, but fans were disappointed that their No. 6 team at the time didn’t put up more points on the board.

The blue and white dominated the first five matchups in series history, posting shutouts and a 150-point combined score. After those five and a tie, the Wildcats redeemed themselves with a 3-0 win streak, including a contest on neutral ground. Penn State came back on top in 2021 and will likely do so again in 2025.
